Water Canyon Road (FR285) to Big Lake

South of Eagar, Arizona, you're minutes away from the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest and about 25 minutes from Big Lake.

It's one of my favorite Southern Apache County back country roads to venture on.

Just south of Eagar, you find:

• Saffel Canyon ATV Trail

• Homestead Trailhead

• Water Canyon Trailhead

• Elderberry Spring Campground

As you climb up the canyon road:

• Adjacent, Grand View Camp on 85

• Adjacent, Greenwood Historic Homestead on 85

• Little George Reservoir

A top the mountain range:

• Crosby Crossing (East Fork Black River)

Reaching the Highway (Closed during winter(:

• Left, Three Forks and Alpine, Arizona

• Right, Big Lake and Sunrise Park

It is roughly 18 miles as the crow flies, so take it easy and enjoy the awesome scenery.
