Reservation Lake

Updated: Mar 13

Reservation Lake is a popular recreational lake in the White Mountains of Arizona. Its elevation is 9000 feet, and its average size is 300 acres. Getting there is a moderate trek 19 miles south of Big Lake off Arizona 260.

Reseration Lake is a seasonal lake that is only open between April and November. It is accessible by Arizona 273 and FS 116, which are maintained but can be rough going, especially during weather. Expect the last nine miles to be quite bumpy at times.

You can fish for rainbow, brook, and brown trout. Shore fishing is better than most lakes, but trolling and fly fishing are better still. When I visited, facilities were closed, so come prepared. There was no local store, campground, cabin rental, or boat rental available.

The campgrounds are maintained by the White Mountain Apache Tribe Game & Fish. Visit: https://wmatoutdoor.org/wp_view.html?pageid=9 for more about camping regulations or call (928) 338-4385.
